Olympic Games in the heart of Paris
New this year is that almost all sports will take place in the heart of Paris. 80% of all sports will be within a 10-kilometer radius around the Olympic Village. Paris will also utilize existing iconic locations. For example, the swimming section of the triathlon will unfold in the Seine. The current Roland-Garros stadiums will be the stage for tennis and boxing, and the gardens of the Palace of Versailles will be used for all equestrian sports.
New sports
Breakdancing
This year, breakdancing makes its debut at the Games, with only 4 athletes per continent allowed to participate. The biggest challenge in Olympic breakdancing? The scoring system. How do you maintain the freedom of dance without losing its essence? The evaluation revolves around creativity and musicality, a gray area heavily dependent on feeling and interpretation.
Olympic climbing
Climbing is relatively new to the Olympic stage but not entirely unfamiliar, having been part of Tokyo 2020. The Olympic climbing sport comprises three disciplines: Speed, Bouldering, and Lead. Speed focuses on the speed of ascents, Bouldering concentrates on climbing short walls, while Lead challenges athletes to conquer a difficult route at a height of 20 meters.
Surfing
Although the Olympic Games are held in Paris, Olympic surfing takes place in a location that almost seems like a world tour. Teahupoo, located on the island of Tahiti in French Polynesia, serves as the centre of Olympic surfing. This island, somewhere between Australia and South America, welcomes surfers to its exotic waves for this exciting sporting event.
Skateboarding
Skateboarding is part of the new Olympic sports during Paris 2024. It was initially announced as an addition to the 2020 Games in Tokyo. The IOC recognized the immense youth interest in this sport and decided to officially add it to the Olympic program.
Clubhouse 24
In the heart of Paris, with the Eiffel Tower in the background, stands the mighty Palais de Tokyo. During the Olympic Games Paris 2024, this museum transforms into a true sports palace, namely Clubhouse 24. Clubhouse 24 serves as a sports center for all Olympic Games visitors. There’s a food market, live entertainment, interactive sports activities, and time to have a beer with your compatriots or competitors while discussing your favorite sport. Clubhouse 24 is the place where everyone can come together between the sports sessions.
How to get there?
Iéna Metro Station is the closest to Clubhouse 24. This station is reachable via Metro Line 9.
